What is Foot Drop?

What is Advance pain managment

Foot Drop (also known as drop foot) is a condition where you can’t lift the front of your foot properly, causing it to drag while walking. It’s a symptom, not a disease — usually caused by nerve, muscle, or brain-related problems.

Common Causes of Foot Drop:

  • Peroneal nerve injury (common in leg injuries or surgeries)
  • Stroke or brain injury
  • Herniated disc / spinal problems
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Motor neuron diseases

Signs & Symptoms to Watch For:

    • Toes drag while walking
    • Lifting the knee higher to avoid tripping (steppage gait)
    • Slapping sound while walking
    • Weakness in ankle or toes
    • Numbness or tingling on top of foot
