What is Dyspareunia ?

Dyspareunia is a medical term used to describe pain or discomfort experienced during sexual intercourse. Both men and women can experience dyspareunia, although it is more common in women. The pain can be felt in various parts of the body, including the genitals, pelvis, abdomen, or lower back.

CAUSES

There are several possible causes of dyspareunia. In women, it can be due to medical conditions such as vaginal infections, endometriosis, vulvodynia, or vaginal dryness. It can also be caused by psychological factors such as anxiety or past traumatic experiences. In men, dyspareunia can be due to conditions such as prostate inflammation or injury to the penis.

TREATMENT

Treatment for dyspareunia depends on the underlying cause. In some cases, simple measures such as using lubricants or changing sexual positions can help alleviate the pain. In other cases, medical treatment such as antibiotics or hormone therapy may be necessary. Psychological counseling may also be beneficial for some individuals. It is important to seek medical advice if dyspareunia is causing significant discomfort or affecting sexual functioning.
